Corfu Imperial

Greece

Ticking all the boxes for adults and kids, this super-family-friendly Corfu hotel is really quite a unique proposition.

Set as it is at the end of the Peninsula Kommeno, the impressive location commands exceptional views and secret coves. Inside and out the decor is opulent; think marble, antiques, fine art and chandeliers, as well as the new ‘grand pool’.

All extremely spacious, there is an excellent choice of accommodation too, many home to their own private pool and/or gardens.

On the menu are 14 dining options making half board a popular package for guests. Since 2021 there is also the all-inclusive Comfort All-In Pack.

Family friendly facilities are thoughtful. Aside from the Blue Flag beach and kids club there is food for infants in all the restaurants, children’s menus and early dining times, and even a paediatrician on call for peace of mind.

Add to this scene a vast spa and sea transfers from the hotel’s own pontoon and you have the makings of a luxurious Greek getaway.

Stay

The 300 accommodation options at the Corfu Imperial comprise: 136 rooms, 64 bungalows, 28 suites, 42 Waterfront Collection spaces and 26 Boshetto Rooms.

As standard expect air conditioning, a pillow menu, a bathrobe and slippers, hot drink making facilities, a safe, and some form of outside space, the minimum being a balcony.

New bedrooms for 2021 included the couple-friendly Cruise Guestroom with a sea view and the Dream Villa Waterfront with its own private swimming pool. Options for families range from suites with a separate en suite bathroom and balcony, to the toddler-friendly family bungalows which are on the ground floor and have a shared pool.

Larger villa-style properties are available for groups and families, some with their own beach access.

Eat

Corfu Imperial’s restaurants and bars are a real draw. What’s more, the range of packages available – like the Comfort All-In package – make it easy to budget.

Mon Repos is a buffet restaurant renowned for its five-star breakfasts but serving at lunch and dinner times too. The Tasty Corner is a hit with younger guests.

Dine on fresh fish and seafood at the overwater Yali restaurant. Or head to Trattoria for a charcuterie plate and bottle of wine under the palm and olives trees.

Kids can cool off with a treat from the Gelateria. Parents can make the most of the hotel’s babysitting service and go for a cocktail at Odysseus. Sample the fine French cuisine at Aristos. Or book a table at Merlin’s for Asian and Latin American fusion fare.

Explore

On the east coast of the island, Corfu Imperial sits on the Kommeno peninsular between the towns of Dassia and Gouvia Corfu, just 14km from the airport.

There are plenty of direct flights from the UK to Corfu taking just over three hours, on carriers including British Airways and easyJet.

This incredibly beautiful island with its cypress trees, olive groves, golden beaches and impossibly blue seas is made for manageable exploring. There’s golf and horse riding not far from the hotel, or a day trip to Corfu Town (camera in hand) is worth the time.

Or wander the streets made famous as a set For Your Eyes Only, Danilia. More recently used as a backdrop for The Durrells TV series, this replica Corfiot village boasts the largest indoor tavern on the island and is just 6km from Corfu Imperial.

Why here?

Take a dip – water plays a big part in the attraction of the hotel thanks to its private coves with four sand beaches and one pebble beach (which is Blue Flag awarded); three freshwater swimming pools, one of which is heated; an indoor freshwater pool at the spa; plus lots of private pools adjoining the villas and bungalows.

Chill out – the 580 m² Elixir Beauty Spa is an exceptional recreation facility, with an indoor pool, open-air relaxation area, a beauty salon, sauna and Hammam, as well as treatment rooms including one just for couples.

Work up a sweat – the 24-hour, brand new gym has Technogym equipment; there are seven tennis courts; mini soccer; a choice of watersports; basketball and yachting and sea activities.

Little VIPs – families have everything they need at their fingertips with equipment for babies available to pre-book; Grecoland Kids Club for those aged four to 12-years-old; Grecoteens Activities for kids over 13; and the Discover Adventures programme for seven to 14-year-olds.

Holiday shop – a number of boutiques including: beauty, jewellery and souvenirs, as well as a market for holiday essentials and forgotten items.

Our take

To see a bit of the local area we recommend making the most of the complimentary transfers; either by sea between Corfu Imperial and three other Grecotel resorts, or by land on the daily shuttle bus service to Corfu Town.

Travelling with kids made easy – that’s what this hotel does so well. Exclusively at Corfu Imperial are mini-buffets to give kids a constant stream of drink and snack options (essential as any parent will tell you), including fresh fruit, biscuits, yoghurts, fruit juices and cakes. At the Tasty Corner at lunch are lots of kids’ favourites like pizzas and burgers, as well as some local dishes for them to try including fresh fish and salads.
