LUX* Grand Baie Resort & Residences

Set on one of the Indian Ocean island’s best beaches, this super family-friendly resort wows with its creative dining experiences, cutting edge design and architecture, and truly unique accommodation choices, many of which have their own pool.

Grand Baie on the northern coast of Mauritius overlooks a picture postcard lagoon which laps a white sand beach – the kind that immediately comes to mind when you think of a holiday in this part of the world. Making the most of the stellar views, the resort’s rooftop is home to an infinity pool, restaurant and bar which melt into the horizon of sea and sky blues.
In fact, everything here has been designed to marvel at, created by leading Mauritian architect Jean Francois Adam, and with interiors by the legendary Kelly Hoppen. As well as focusing on clean, fresh spaces that enhance the sense of ‘chill’, the resort also does its bit for sustainability with the mantra of “We care about what matters”.
An exceptional Mauritius luxury resort that will no doubt become a favourite with visitors to the Indian Ocean island for years to come.

The 116 accommodations comprise 86 suites, eight villas, 20 residences and two penthouses. Each has been designed by Kelly Hoppen and has a number of luxurious features as standard like mood lighting, a mini-bar and free high-speed Wifi.

Junior Suites have been designed using a designer’s loft as their muse... think terrazzo bathrooms with a rainfall shower, a dressing room and a tropical outdoor terrace with a view. The LUX* Pool Residences are ideal for families with two bedrooms, an outdoor area, butler service, swimming pool and living and dining areas.

Groups seeking an extra special stay should book a LUX* Pool Penthouse with its three bedrooms and vast outside area with pool and barbecue. Or of course you could opt for the Pool Villas or epic Grand Beach Pool Villa that include the service of a chef and butler.

LUX* Grand Baie Resort & Residences Mauritius has four restaurants and two bars.

Beach Rouge is open for three mealtimes daily, with a beach club vibe but à la carte menu and some three bars within the setting. Food is Mediterranean-style with extras including a bakery and fermentation corner.

Rooftop bar and restaurant Bisou is set around the infinity pool among trees and plants with views of the lagoon. Enjoy a private cabana, tapas-style dishes, and aperitivo with a sunset vista. Afterwards head to Club Ai Kisu for a drink and dancing until 2am.

For an extra special dining experience Ai Kisu offers Asian fare with theatre, including a Soya Sauce Sommelier and Waravaki straw fire cooking.

From cafe to bar, Maison LUX* moves from coffee and croissants to canapés and cocktails through the day, while children will love stopping off at ICI for an ice cream lab session.

It takes just over an hour by car to get to the resort on the north of the island from the airport - Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport – on the south, with direct flights from the UK taking just under 12 hours. Many visitors choose to twin their stay in Mauritius with another destination, such as a South Africa safari.

The resort is located in the Grand Baie of its name – one of the island’s best beaches. To ensure guests make the most of their time on Mauritius the resort offers Collectable Experiences; ways to connect with your surroundings and gain understanding of local culture and traditions. A trip inland to see the many unique natural wonders should certainly be on your to-do list.

Why here?

The resort boasts four swimming pools, including the incredible infinity rooftop pool. Many of the accommodation options also come with their own private pool.
LUX* Me Spa is an idyllic setting with top-class amenities such as tilting treatment beds and Dyson hair tools. On site there is a relaxation pool and garden, Turkish hammam and a multi-sensory water path. Bliss!
Kids are spoilt by the LUX* facilities. PLAY is a space for three to 11-year-olds with its own library, arts and crafts area and veggie garden. There’s a children’s pool next to the main pool and a weekly programme of activities. Studio17 caters for teens offering video games, a DJ deck, complimentary watersports and a photo booth.
The wellness and fitness provision is superb and includes dedicated areas for yoga and cycle classes

Our take

The Indian Ocean’s first rooftop wellness experience could only be entitled Muscle Up On The Roof right? Here there are two 30m Olympic-standard running tracks, sessions in CrossFit and HIIT, or guests can work up a sweat on the MyBeast fitness frame.

There are some truly beautiful spots to visit on Mauritius, but a Travel Seen favourite is the Labourdonnais Estate. Boasting a fruity bounty in one of the largest orchards on the island, ruins of an old sugar factory and a vanilla greenhouse, a day here is a walk through the island’s history that’s good for the whole family.
