The Caves

The Island Records founder – of Bob Marley fame – offers a trio of superb Jamaican hotels known together as Island Outpost: Strawberry Hill, GoldenEye and The Caves.
Although each has a setting that is unique, together they live by the same rhythm... easy going, within nature and washed down with a rum punch.
Sister property to GoldenEye and Strawberry Hill, The Caves is set in 10 acres of cliff side with a lively feel and 12 cottages, suites and villas to pick from. On the limestone cliffs of Negril you’ll discover a rum bar, private dining cave, saltwater swimming pool and spa with a sea view, all just minutes from the area’s famous Seven Mile white sand beach.
Each stay is all-inclusive and although The Caves only welcomes children over the age of 16, families can stay at the Clandestino Villa with younger children and still enjoy swimming and snorkelling at The Sands.
Be sure to have a rum punch in the incredible Blackwell Rum Bar; take a complimentary yoga class to start the day right; see dolphins on a kayaking adventure along the coast; and head into nearby Negril for live music and the buzzing nightlife.

Each of the 12 cottages on the cliff side at Caves is unique, with plenty of Caribbean charm and cosiness. Guests enjoy an all-inclusive stay here.
As standard expect free WiFi, air conditioning, a mini-bar and plush bathrobes.  With plenty of Jamaican soul the suites feature artwork and wood carvings created locally, tropical upholstery and plants, and a real indoor/outdoor feel with views of sea or gardens showcased through shuttered windows.
Clandestino is a three-bedroom villa with double occupancy annex, a private swimming pool, fully-equipped kitchen and butler service. It is the only accommodation at the hotel to accept children under 16 years old.

At The Caves there are three options for wining and dining within the hotel’s all-inclusive; The Sands, The Gazebo and Bamboo Terrace.
The main dining choice at The Caves, Bamboo Terrace has an easy charm overseen by a huge painting of Bob Marley. At The Gazebo guests dine on the island’s finest breakfast fare – like banana pancakes and fried dumplings washed down with Jamaican-grown fruit juices – all under a thatched roof. While at The Sands the al fresco space by the Negril Lighthouse is lively by night, laidback by day, with the fresh Jerk chicken here a speciality.
Whether you’re a guest at The Caves or not be sure to make time for a drink at the Blackwell Rum Bar while on holiday in Jamaica. Entered via a coral staircase which takes you across a wooden bridge, you’ll find yourself in a volcanic cave that specialises in the island’s famous rum cocktails.

Flights from the UK to Jamaica take just under 10 hours, with direct routes from London into Kingston and Montego Bay airports.
The Caves is set on limestone cliffs in Negril in the parish of Westmoreland. A transfer from Montego Bay airport takes around 80 minutes.
The hotel can arrange transport to take guests to Seven Mile Beach which is very close by, as well as other attractions in the area including Negril Beach, the Bob Marley Museum and YS Falls. Activities to enjoy on Jamaica include: sailing, swimming with dolphins, golf and an ATV safari.

Why here?

The hotel has access to what is surely some of the best swimming in the world via ladders or cliff diving from 5–33 feet. For those who prefer a sunbathing friendly option there’s a saltwater swimming pool and jacuzzi.
The Aveda Amenity Spa is award-winning, with treatments available in a candlelit cave for an extra special experience. Like its sister spas at GoldenEye and Strawberry Hill the treatments focus on island-grown ingredients, like the Blue Mountain Coffee or Caribbean Brown Sugar Scrub. Some beauty treatments are also available.
Facilities include watersports and diving, yoga classes, kayaking, classes in cooking and mixology, guided snorkelling tours, as well as a gift shop for picking up souvenirs.

Our take

Feeling brave? Then jumping from the 30-foot point at the hotel and then swimming through a series of limestone caves is an experience you won’t forget in a hurry.
In a bid to make the experience at the hotel as authentic as possible for guests, there are cocktail making and cooking classes each week. And if you happen to be staying when it’s on, then the monthly Jamaica Night at The Sands is an absolute must.
