The House

Just the ticket for a Barbados honeymoon or grown-up Caribbean retreat, The House welcomes adults only for an all-inclusive boutique hotel experience on the island’s premier spot: the platinum west coast.

The hotel wins guests over with a two-pronged approach; an epic location on a pristine stretch of beach and service which delivers a personalised, home-away-from-home feel.

Inclusions with each luxury stay go beyond traditional “all-inclusive”. Think champagne breakfasts and evening canapés; a Jet Lag Revival Massage; frozen treats on the beach; snorkelling, kayaking and sailing; and a water taxi to Elegant Hotels’ other properties on the Barbados west coast.

As a boutique hotel the accommodation options amount to just 34 rooms and suites. Each has been designed for adults only. So plush furnishings, rain showers with body jets, and French doors opening onto balconies with a sunset view of the Caribbean Sea.

When guests are not soaking up the rays at the beach there’s the large freeform swimming pool or The House Spa to retreat to. And the wining and dining options for such a small hotel really pack a punch. Highlights include the new Italian restaurant Positano and a bar and restaurant dedicated to the island’s famous export, rum.

The Travel Seen team has a wealth of experience in Barbados holidays. Get in touch for their insight and offers for The House by Elegant Hotels. A truly outstanding all-inclusive Caribbean beach hotel.

The House has just 34 suites, Junior or One Bedroom with either an ocean or garden view.

Each has wooden furnishings, crisp white linens, tiled floors and air conditioning. As standard expect your own place to sit outside and enjoy the view of either the manicured tropical gardens or Caribbean Sea, and a large plush bathroom with 5-star toiletries and a rain shower. And there’s complimentary Wifi, a mini-bar, espresso machine and television.

For added indulgence some one-bedroom suites have their own private plunge pool, and Oceanview Junior and Oceanview One Bedroom Suite guests have their complimentary jet lag massage extended from 30 minutes to an hour.

Start the day at The Deck where a champagne buffet breakfast is laid on and can be enjoyed al fresco. This restaurant is the hotel’s main all-inclusive dining option, and where afternoon tea is served and canapés in the evening.

1703 Mount Gay Rum Bar doesn’t just serve the island’s most famous export, but also has a menu for lunch and dinner.

Open just for evenings, the new Italian restaurant at The House, Positano, serves up freshly made pasta and pizzas, deep-fried calamari and shrimp with aioli, Caesar salads, Tuscan seafood stew, and tiramisu, affogato and zeppole for dessert.

For privacy guests can request room service or a cabana on the beach. There are weekly themed dinners, such as the beach buffet. And as part of Elegant Hotels, guests of The House can choose the Taste of Elegance dine around programme, giving access to the bars and restaurants at sister hotels in Barbados.

There are daily flights from the UK to Barbados Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI), taking just under nine hours. The island is GMT - 4hours.

From the airport The House by Elegant Hotels is a 35 minute transfer by car. The hotel is 20 minutes from the capital of Bridgetown and just a 10 minute drive from the popular Limegrove Lifestyle Centre – great for shopping - and Holetown – a good destination for local nightlife.

The exceptional greens of the Royal Westmoreland Golf Course are just seven miles from the hotel. And a trip to Harrison’s Cave or a swimming with turtles experience are classic Bajan experiences to while away an afternoon.

Why here?

Take a dip – as well as the luxurious swimming pool surrounded by swaying palms there is the hotel’s stretch of white sand beach on which guests have access to the Ambassador Service.

Chill out – the boutique spa has two treatment rooms, offering therapies including massage, manicures, facials and scrubs.

Work up a sweat – at the fitness centre guests can make the most of the state-of-the-art equipment including exercise bikes, treadmills and cardio equipment. There are also fitness classes scheduled.

Out on the sea – included with each stay is a selection of watersports: snorkelling, sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, waterskiing, banana boats and tubing.

Our take

Barbados has between eight and nine hours of sunshine each day and at just 21 miles long and 14 miles wide hiring a car to explore the island is a great way to really experience this Caribbean gem.

Back in the days of supersonic commercial flights, Barbados was the only holiday destination in its hemisphere to boast a scheduled Concorde service. You can visit one of the retired aircraft at Grantley Adams airport.
