10 of the Best Destinations to Celebrate a Milestone in Your Life

Holiday spots to host those landmark stories

Seeking a last minute holiday to mark a special milestone in your life? Or perhaps looking to catch up on those missed celebrations from the past 18 months? These are our Been & Seen top 10 destinations to do just that...
An Anniversary on St Lucia
Regularly tipped as one of the world’s most romantic hotels, what better setting to rekindle the romance than St Lucia’s Jade Mountain?

Here the suites have had their fourth wall removed so guests enjoy panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea and the island’s famous twin mountains. What’s more, this luxury St Lucia hotel is totally geared to all things ‘love’. So if you’re heading there to mark a milestone anniversary there’s plenty of details that can be added to your stay to make it extra memorable: like a renewal of your vows, and private dining and spa treatments in your suite.
Proposing in Dubai
Whisking the love of your life away for a romantic holiday proposal is guaranteed to secure a ‘yes’!

Travel Seen’s dream proposal holiday would be to Dubai, staying in one of the super-private suites with its own terrace, butler service and daily sundowners at Jumeirah Dar al Masayf.

As for the getting down on one knee spot, there’s plenty to inspire in Dubai, from the aquarium-side dining at Atlantis to the Skyview at Burj Al Arab. Or if you really want to feel on top of the world, we suggest popping the question at the Burj Khalifa.
Retirement holidays in Portugal
Celebrating the start of retirement or simply enjoying being able to travel again in your post-working life? Then our Been & Seen (by Ronan Keating!) suggestion is the Penha Longa Resort in Portugal. On the resort’s doorstep are stunning walks, with the guided historical circuit definitely worth working into a stay here. The award-winning golf course offers different experiences on the Atlantic Championship or Monastery circuits, with 27 holes to play. Foodies meanwhile can take a trip to a local market with a resort chef, try their hand a creating sushi, or sample new tipples during a gin tasting.
A Babymoon on Cyprus
Once baby arrives it will be a long time before you’ll be able to think about adult-only hotels again, so if little one is still cooking, how about a trip to Constantinou Bros Asimina Suites in Cyprus?

Super close to the sights and shops of Paphos, you can take a morning stroll for souvenirs for baby’s room before heading back to the spa for a relaxing dip in the indoor, heated, freshwater swimming pool. Spend the afternoon with a mocktail by the outdoor pool, before a soak in your huge bathtub followed by a romantic dinner for two.
Honeymooning in the Maldives
It’s hardly surprising the Maldives is such a favourite honeymoon hotspot – particularly for a winter honeymoon, which is when the Indian Ocean islands enjoy perfect weather conditions for a beach holiday.

Our recommendation for a Maldives honeymoon is the LUX* Maldives South Ari Atoll. Start the day right with a floating breakfast tray in your private pool, before heading out to spot the region’s incredible sea life on board a catamaran. Then toast to the start of married life with a sumptuous dinner followed by live music and cocktails by the beach after the sun’s gone down.
Special birthday holiday in Mauritius
Celebrate the start of a new decade with a birthday holiday to the paradise island of Mauritius – staying, we suggest, at the island’s hottest new opening, the LUX* Grand Baie Resort & Residences

This super-sleek and stylish Mauritius hotel has plenty of wow to ensure a memorable birthday celebration. The piece de resistance is the rooftop bar, which is the perfect spot to pop a cork at sunset on your special day.
New start holidays to Turkey
It’s been a tough 18 months for most of us. Restrictions, furlough, job losses, home schooling, illness, loss... the toll on the nation’s mental health and on our relationships has been enormous.

So if a new start holiday is on the cards, perhaps following a divorce or to celebrate the end of hard times, we recommend Hillside in Turkey. With its sunset parties, two spas and adult-only beaches it has plenty of sociable, grown-up attractions to mark a new chapter in life.
Flying the nest holiday on Antigua
Kids leaving home soon? Then perhaps it’s time for one last blow-out family holiday to enjoy some quality time together and make memories.

Ticking all the boxes is Antigua’s Carlisle Bay, which strikes that perfect balance for families with older children of offering them the space and facilities to do their own thing alongside the opportunities to enjoy time together. We recommend booking the exclusive Carlisle Suites thanks to their extra en suite bedrooms.
Baby’s first holiday in Crete
Finding the magic formula to create the perfect first holiday with a baby can be a bit of a minefield. From their own experience Travel Seen parents recommend Crete’s Nana Princess, which is a few hours flight away and ahead of GMT by just a couple of hours; great for keeping baby’s nightly sleeping routine while you’re away -  as they’ll be up with you for dinner and then sleep later into the next morning.

Opting for a Supreme Suite means you can put baby to sleep upstairs, and then head to the lower floor to have a late night dip in your own private pool without disturbing them but within monitor range. Everything you might need can be waiting in-room on arrival too, such as a high chair, sterilizer and baby bath.
‘Just because’ holiday in Grenada
Of course you don’t just need a celebration as an excuse to travel, and for many of us just being able to holiday again post-Covid-19 will make our next holiday a milestone in itself.

So let’s celebrate travel again, and for that we’d recommend the Caribbean island of Grenada and a stay at Mount Cinnamon. Here you’ll remember the joy of travel thanks to its authenticity at each turn, with that sense of being far from home in every detail – the sea views from your suite, the taste of a barbecue on the beach, the scent of tropical flowers as you wander the gardens, and the sound of a steel drum band as you sip a spiced rum punch.
