8 Best Travel Experiences in Cyprus

Be wowed by our top eight Cypriot experiences; from beaches to historical sites, here’s Travel Seen’s not-to-be-missed spots on the island

A favourite for British holidaymakers, Cyprus is easy to get to and offers sun, sea and sand in abundance.

So here’s Travel Seen’s pick of the top eight experiences on Cyprus, not to be missed:

1. Lara Beach

“The best beach I visited was Lara Beach on the Akamas Heights,” says our very own Product Executive. “It is the number one beach spot in the area. It is full of beautiful coves and the bluest of waters. It is also has a turtle conservation centre so if you’re lucky enough, turtles nest here during summer which is a breathtaking experience to see first-hand.

Our Social Media Executive agrees: “Lara Beach is rated as one of the best on the entire island and I can certainly see why.”

2. Tomb of the Kings

At least half a dozen of those people we asked who’d been to Cyprus said you have to see the Tomb of the Kings when you visit. It’s right next to the Elysium hotel and a UNESCO World Heritage listed site. Here the large underground tombs have been carved out of solid rock, dating back to the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

3. Sanctuary of Aphrodite

Located in Kouklia Village, this ‘Old Pafos’ archaeological site is also UNESCO World Heritage listed. The remains are thought to date back to as early as the 12th century BC, and there’s a small museum nearby with historical finds from the area.

4. Akamas Peninsula

An easy way to do land and sea in one day is to head to the west of the island, where the Akamas Peninsular offers a stunning array of beaches – including the Blue Lagoon – as well as coastal paths that are home to Cypriot wildlife.

“The Akamas Peninsula is one of the island's best hiking spots,” says our Social Media Executive.

5. The House of Dionysus

Located in the Paphos Archaeological Park, these Roman remains showcase the island’s best examples of mosaics. The building is thought to date back to the 2nd century AD. The House of Dionysus is close to our Paphos hotels and the boardwalk which runs along the front of the coast.

6. Alykes Beach

And speaking of the Paphos Boardwalk, one of the places it hugs along its coastal route is Alykes Beach, which the Travel Seen team says “has plenty of good facilities and is perfect for holidaymakers with children”.

7. Kissonerga Bay

Or “for peace and quiet and an exquisitely inviting strip of sand” our team says Cyprus visitors must plan a few hours at Kissonerga Bay. About 8km north of Paphos, there are no facilities here but the sunset views are outstanding.

8. Fig Tree Bay

Influencer @skevi.constantinou says: “My favourite beaches in Cyprus is located in Protaras, it’s called Fig Tree Bay.”

It was named the third best beach in Europe by Tripadvisor in 2011; and you’ve only got to Google it to see why – the images of the water are other-worldly.
